We know this is an exciting and sometimes nerve-racking time! To help you, here are a answers to a few questions we're frequently asked about SOAR.
Do I have to attend the Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) program?
Yes. All new students are required to attend the full one-day SOAR program.
When is the Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) program?
There are three dates for the Transfer SOAR program:
- June 6
- July 22
- August 18
Space at each program is limited, and registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis.
What happens at SOAR?
At SOAR, you will register for classes, be introduced to services and resources available on campus, discover opportunities for involvement, and be welcomed into the Dominican University community. If you need to take a Math or Foreign Language Assessment, you will do this at SOAR.
What is the schedule for the Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) program?
Check-in takes place at 8:30 a.m. in the Parmer Hall Atrium and the SOAR program will conclude between 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. depending on the number of assessments required for individual students. Please note, if you are required to take the Math Assessment or Modern Foreign Language Assessment you will be contacted via email by the Advising Office prior to SOAR. You will receive a full schedule for the day upon arrival.
How do I register for SOAR?
To register for SOAR, you must complete the online Reservation Form. Please note that you must pay your Tuition Deposit, prior to registering for SOAR. If you have questions about registration, please contact the Admission Office at (800) 828-8475 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
How will my date be confirmed?
You will receive an email from Dominican University once your SOAR date has been confirmed. The confirmation will be sent to the email on file with the Admissions Department. If your contact information has changed, please send an email to email@example.com.
What time do I need to arrive?
Check-in takes place at 8:30 a.m. in the Parmer Hall Atrium. The program will conclude between 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Where can I park?
If you are driving to campus, please park in the West Parking Lot or the Parking Garage.
Who can attend the Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) program?
The SOAR program is designed specifically for students only. Parents and family members are invited to attend Welcome Weekend programs on August 26th. Parents can also visit dom.edu/parents for additional resources.
How do I change my SOAR date?
How does course registration work?
You will meet with your academic advisor at SOAR, who will help you select and register for your fall semester classes. Prior to SOAR, you will receive an email from the Advising Office on how to conduct a course search and tips to prepare for your meeting.
What do I do if I have special needs or need accommodations?
If you are a student with a documented disability requiring testing accommodations, please contact the Dean of Students Office at (708) 524-6822.
Who should I contact if I have questions about Assessment Tests?
I have food allergies. Will there be something for me to eat at SOAR?
Students with dietary concerns should contact the Dean of Students Office at (708) 524-6822. Dining services can accommodate the majority of dietary restrictions with appropriate advanced notice.
When and how will I find out the name of my assigned adviser?
Information on your academic advisor will be provided at SOAR.
