8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. – Check In
You will meet in the Coughlin Commons to begin your SOAR experience. You will receive materials necessary for the SOAR program, your overnight room assignment in Murray hall, and an opportunity to put your belongings in your room. We encourage you to be on time for Check In as the program will start promptly at 9 a.m.
9 a.m. to 11 p.m. – SOAR Placement Tests, Dominican Reflection, and a trip Downtown
You will begin the morning by taking your placement exams (English/Writing, Math, and Foreign Language), so don’t be late! In addition, you will learn about the Dominican curriculum, Academic/Peer Advising, Technology, reflect on what you would like from your college experience, and culminate the day with a double-decker bus tour of downtown Chicago. Be sure to bring a jacket or sweatshirt!
Lunch and dinner are provided on Day One.
8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Workshop Rotation and Class Registration
You will rotate through workshops that include meeting your advisor, registering for classes, learning about the wide array of campus resources to help you succeed in college, and time with new and continuing students at the University.
Breakfast and lunch are provided on Day Two.
What To Do Now
RSVP online. Each orientation session has a limited number of students that can participate. Please RSVP by the deadline listed for each session. Please note that SOAR sessions may close before the RSVP deadline – so you are encouraged to RSVP ASAP!
