This interdisciplinary minor helps prepare students to utilize social media in their professional lives across a variety of professional fields. The minor offers students the opportunity to learn about the nature of social media, how to create content for social media, and how to design a communication campaign that utilizes social media.
The minor is divided into three areas of emphasis:
- Foundation - These courses deal with the technological characteristics, the industries that create and propagate such technologies, and the theories, concepts and ethical considerations that govern how we understand and use these technologies.
- Design - Design courses deal with learning how to produce audio, video, and visual content for social media platforms.
- Application - These courses deal with learning how to apply social media skills in a real world context, in classroom and community-based learning settings.
