French

Dominican’s French major concentrates on the language and cultures of the peoples of France and the Francophone world. All courses except FREN 289, Introduction to French Cinema, are conducted in French.
French majors must complete 32 semester hours in the language beyond FREN 111, Intermediate French. Required courses focus on:
  • Advanced language skills, including oral fluency, grammar and composition
  • History, literature and culture of France and the Francophone world
French minors must complete 24 semester hours in the language beyond FREN 111 Intermediate French.

All French majors are encouraged to study abroad during their time at Dominican. Students who study at Dominican’s program in the beautiful university town of Nantes, France, and wish to have these courses count towards the French major must get prior written approval from the French discipline director.

Combining foreign language study with business or education coursework increases graduates’ career options even more. But interested students should seek faculty guidance early to ensure timely completion of all degree requirements.
