B.A. with a major in Early Childhood Education
Undergraduate students enrolling at Dominican University River Forest for Fall 2003 may now elect to pursue an Early Childhood Education Major leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Early Childhood Education.
Applications for those interested in pursuing this degree are now being accepted from graduating high school seniors and community college transfer students. To be accepted, candidates have to satisfy university requirements for admissions and also have to pass the State of Illinois Test of Basic Skills.
To earn the degree, candidates have to satisfactorily complete the core and foundation courses required by the university for all undergraduate students. In addition, this major requires students to pass 42 credit hours in Early Childhood courses and 10 hours in Special Education courses with a "C" or better average in all course work and an overall 2.75 Grade Point Average. Candidates seeking State of Illinois Type 04 Certification and the Special Education endorsement will have to complete the required State of Illinois tests of competencies. Candidates in this degree program also have the opportunity to satisfy a portion of their field experience requirement in the Junior Citizens’ Center sponsored by the Dominican University School of Education.
The new undergraduate Early Childhood Education major complements the graduate level Master of Science in Education degree in Early Childhood Education that has been offered by the Dominican University School of Education since 1990.
