Schools statewide receive nearly $1.2 million to increase fruit & vegetable offerings; More students have access to healthy eating choices
- The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announced today that 39 new schools have joined the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, joining 29 schools already participating and will share nearly $1.2 million to buy additional fresh fruits and vegetables. The expansion of the federally funded Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program (FFVP) to include nearly 21,500 students is intended to allow them to eat healthy at school during the 2008-9 school year on a daily basis. con't
35 schools and 11 districts make AYP for second year to move off academic improvement status
- The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announced today that nearly 50 schools and districts are being removed from improvement status as a result of their student performance, attendance rates and graduation rates. The schools and districts met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years by meeting the standards of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). The results were announced as part of the State Board’s statewide analysis of the 2008 State Report Card which will be released on October 31, 2008. con't
