Dominican's Mission
Dear New Students,
I am so glad you are coming to Dominican University. Let my welcome join with others. We look forward to seeing you face to face.
Dominican prides itself in being a relationship centered place of learning. So welcome to the family. Since its founding in 1901 our faculty, staff and the Dominican Sisters have been blessed with a diverse population of students who come to be educated. We hope you will feel at home here in a very short time. The founder of the Sinsinawa Dominicans, Father Samuel Mazzuchelli, said, “ Make school as much like home as possible.” The first president, Mother Emily Power , worked hard to make that a reality. It continues to be the cornerstone of our fine University to this day.
In the Dominican tradition there are four pillars: study, prayer, community and service. In your
years with us we are confident that these ways of being will be important in your life. Hopefully
they will help to define who you are as your life unfolds. God calls all of us to be good news in
our world. Lets help one another to build a holy and just society that truly reflects the
ways of God everywhere.
The Mission and Ministry department at the University is here for you. Most of us are clustered in the middle of the second floor of Lewis near the chapel and Noonan Reading Room. Drop by any time.

May the rest of your summer days go well. We can’t wait to greet you in August.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
