Admissions Requirements

  • Completed application for Dominican’s Graduate School of Social Work.  Students applying for advanced standing (bachelors in social work required) must complete the advanced standing application and the general admissions application.
  • $25 application fee (non-refundable)
  • An official transcript documenting a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and an official transcript from each college where graduate credit was earned
  • A minimum 2.75 grade point average is required for general admissions and a 3.0 is required for advanced-standing admissions.
  • Three letters of recommendation: at least one letter from an academic reference and two from professional references.  In the event that a prospect is unable to provide an academic reference, an additional professional reference may be submitted, granted it reflects the prospect’s experience in some human services or social services capacity.
  • Interviews and standardized tests are used selectively.

International Students
GSSW welcomes applications from international students. We are authorized by the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to issue SEVIS I-20s and accept F-1 students. For more information on admissions, please contact the admissions office at msw@dom.edu.
In addition to the tuition and fees charged at Dominican University, there are additional expenses for international students:
  • Housing costs (whether room and board in university residence halls or off-campus housing) are the student's responsibility.
  • Medical insurance must be obtained from an insurance agency, either in the home country or in the US. Such insurance may be purchased through the university.
  • All fees, books and personal items are the students' responsibility during their education, including periods when the university is not in session.

Application Procedure
An international applicant will be considered for admission when the school has received the following:
  • A completed official application form accompanied by a non-refundable   application fee of $25
  • Three completed recommendation forms: at least one letter from an academic reference and two from professional references. 
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
  • Current financial statement (within six months of application) demonstrating ability to cover all expenses for one academic year
  • Applicants who were educated outside of the United States and/or students requiring a visa (F-1) and I-20 form must demonstrate English language proficiency by scoring a 83 or better on the internet based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), or a 7.0 or higher on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or the completion of ELS Level 112. They must also show evidence of adequate financial support to qualify for a visa.
No credentials will be returned to the applicant.
