Type 73 School Social Work Certification
In order to enter the Type 73 School Social Work Certification program, you must be currently enrolled in a MSW program or must have an earned MSW from an accredited CSWE program.- Application. Submit Personal Statement, Resume, 3 letters of recommendation (one academic and two professional); transcripts, and $25 application fee.
- Take and pass the Illinois Basic Skills Test. Go to the Illinois Certification Testing System webpage at www.icts.nesinc.com for more details.
- Complete and pass a criminal background investigation. Complete the Criminal Background
Investigation Authorization form. Return the completed authorization form, and $20 to:

**If you already have a MSW degree, you will be required to enroll in Characteristics of Exceptional Children and Social Work Practice in the Public School. Current Dominican University MSW students are required to take all courses listed above in addition to other required MSW courses.
Internship Requirements:

Extern Student
If you already have an earned MSW degree from an accredited program you must perform a minimum of 600 contact hours in a K-12 school setting for the academic year (two semesters) through June. Your Supervisor must possess a master’s degree or higher in school social work and a School Service Personnel Certificate (73) for school social work. Your internship schedule will be agreed upon by the host school and Dominican’s Director of Field Placement. -
Current MSW Student
- 1st year supervised field internship with a minimum of 480 contact hours. (Supervisor must have a master’s degree or higher)
- 2nd year supervised internship with a minimum of 600 contact hours in a K–12 school setting. (Supervisor must possess a master’s degree or higher in school social work and a School Service Personnel Certificate (73) for school social work).
- Upon completion of school internship, the student must receive a positive field placement evaluation and disposition assessment from their field supervisor.
