Dean's Message
Welcome to Dominican
University 's Graduate School of Social Work. I realize that, as an individual considering
admission to a master’s program, you have many options. I’d like to share some information about
our school to help you make your decision.
Our curriculum is unique with its emphasis on globally focused, family-centered practice.
Dominican University offers the first MSW program in Illinois to specialize in this globally
oriented curriculum. We believe that the global focus is necessary for training and developing
social workers to practice in the 21st century. Our full-time, clinical and part-time faculty
possess a wide range of social work practice skills and expertise. They have worked in a variety of
settings, including child welfare services, developmental disabilities programs, domestic
violence-prevention services, health/mental health settings, human trafficking prevention services,
substance abuse facilities, private practice and international community development.
Our concentration in globally focused, family-centered practice offers a wide variety of
field work experiences, including schools, hospitals, family service agencies, child welfare and
geriatric settings, as well as planning and community development agencies. These options offer
opportunities to practice social work at the micro or clinical level as well as at the macro or
social development level. Field sites span downtown Chicago and the city’s surrounding suburbs.
Additionally, for those interested, our global focus includes options for overseas field placement
opportunities. Our MSW program offers a flexible schedule of day and night classes available for
both full-time and part-time students. For those who qualify, we offer a nine-month full-time
advanced-standing program and a two-year, part-time advanced-standing program.
I hope you will consider applying to the Graduate School of Social Work at Dominican
University. I am confident you will find the program life-changing, applicable to your area of
interest, and professionally challenging. We are committed to providing a high-quality MSW program
that is student-centered and focused on your professional development. If there is anything I can
do to assist in your decision, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Mark E. Rodgers, DSW, LCSW, BCD

"The school’s globally focused program intrigued me right from the start particularly the possibility of an international field placement. The professor to student ratio also allows me to work closely with experienced professors. "
