Celebrating 80 years

Graduate School of Library & Information Science

ALA Accredited Seal Founded in 1930, Dominican University's Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) has grown to become one of the nation’s largest Masters of Library and Information Science degree-granting programs. More than 500 students attend classes in River Forest, Greater Chicago, and at the University Center of Lake County (in Grayslake).

In complement to the MLIS, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science offers a Doctorate of Philosophy in Library and Information Science (PhD) as well as post-graduate certifications in knowledge management, school library media, and special studies.

In addition to its academic programs, the school publishes World Libraries , a unique, free, peer-reviewed scholarly library and information science journal - dedicated to librarians and libraries in newly developing regions, whose goal is to encourage scholarly communication and professional development. GSLIS is also home to the Follett Chair, one of only four endowed chairs in library science in the country.

On June 29, 2008, the American Library Association Committee on Accreditation voted accreditation status to the program leading to the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree at Dominican University, (click here to access the GSLIS Accreditation site). The accreditation status of the program explicitly includes all sites offering courses that are part of the program listed above.

The next comprehensive review has been scheduled for spring 2015.
