The Pursuit of Happiness
LAS 466 - The Pursuit of Happiness3 hours Everyone wants to be happy. But what is happiness? How can we attain true happiness? Are some things essential for human flourishing? How should we live? Are virtues and values the key to happiness of self and others? What is the virtuous life? Is it possible to be happy in this life? Using Aristotle’s Ethics as the main text, this seminar will critically evaluate his idea that happiness consists in living the good life and compare it to other accounts of happiness such as egoistic hedonism, utilitarianism, and existentialism.
