On the Origin of Stories
ENGL 220 - On the Origin of Stories3 hours Could storytelling be one of our most ancient behaviors, which helped us survive and evolve as a species, or is it a more recent, cultural development? Would knowing the answer to this question make a difference in how we understand stories? Drawing on insights from both science and literature, this course will explore these and related questions, which are the focus of lively, ongoing debates among evolutionary scientists, anthropologists, psychologists, philosophers, literary critics and story tellers.
Prerequisite(s): ENGL 101 This course will satisfy the literature core area requirement.
