When is commencement?

The Spring Commencement Ceremony is Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the UIC Dorin Forum.

  • 10:30 a.m. Undergraduate Ceremony
  • 3:00 p.m. Graduate Ceremony

Students should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of each ceremony. The processions will begin at 10:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Guests will not be seated during the time of the processions.

How do I sign up to participate in the Spring 2018 Commencement?

Students registered for the Commencement Ceremony when they completed their graduation application. Please contact the Office of the Registrar if assistance is required. If additional assistance is needed, email dugrad@dom.edu.

Am I eligible for Latin Honors?

We do not announce Latin honors at the Commencement Ceremony.  The commencement program list Latin honors for bachelor degrees only.  Latin honors are not awarded at the master’s level.

Latin Honors will be based on the cumulative grade point average as of Fall 2017 term.  Students who are not scheduled to complete their degree by the end of the Spring 2018 term will not have Latin Honors listed. The program will list all students who are eligible for Latin honors as of Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

Honors degrees are awarded on the basis of the cumulative grade point average of all baccalaureate coursework.  If a student enters in or before the 2015-2016 academic year, they must complete a minimum of 62 credit hours at Dominican in order to qualify for these honors distinctions.  If a student enters in the 2016-2017 academic year or later, they must complete a minimum of 56 credit hours to qualify.

Is there a commencement rehearsal?

There will be no commencement rehearsal. Handouts and information will be available at the Countdown to Commencement Event on Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11. Additional information will also be posted on the website.

Where do graduating students meet before commencement?

Line-up begins one hour before the ceremony at the UIC Dorin Forum. All students should enter the doors located at the corner of Halsted and Roosevelt Roads; proceed to the 2nd floor of the UIC Dorin Forum. Students will be directed to locations based upon their school and degree. Students should only bring their cap, gown, hood (graduate ceremony only) and honor cords. All other items should be left with family or in in your vehicle.

What should graduating students wear to commencement?

Undergraduate students should bring cap, tassel, gown, and honor cords. Graduate students should bring cap, tassel, gown, and hood. All other items should be left with family or in your vehicle.

Your attire should be business appropriate (i.e., no jeans, flip-flops, shorts etc.). We want to make sure that you look your best when you walk across the stage. Please leave your purses or any other items with family members so you do not carry them as you process.

How do graduating students order commencement regalia (cap and gown)?

The deadline to order your regalia was Monday, March 5.  Do not worry - the Stepan Bookstore ordered extra regalia.

Students pay for their regalia at the time of pick up directly to the Stepan Bookstore. Regalia pick up begins Tuesday, April 10. All regalia must be picked up by Friday, April 20. Orders placed after the deadline may incur a late fee.

Bachelor Degree Regalia (gown, cap and tassel): $38 plus tax

Master’s Degree Regalia (gown, hood, cap and tassel): $72 plus tax

What do graduating students do with the cap and gown after the ceremony? 


The regalia is the "keepsake" variety—graduates do not need to return regalia after the commencement ceremonies. The regalia is yours to keep.

How many tickets do graduating students receive for the ceremony?

Those participating in the 10:30 a.m. Undergraduate Ceremony will receive four tickets.

Those participating in the 3:00 p.m. Graduate Ceremony will receive six tickets.

At the current time, we do not expect additional tickets to be available. All tickets should be picked up by Friday, April 20.

Admission to commencement is by ticket only for all guests (including babies/children). Graduates do not need a ticket. Only graduates participating in the Commencement Ceremony receive tickets for guests. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be plenty of seats available for guests requiring accessible seating accommodations.

Where do we park?

All graduates receive one complimentary parking voucher. If you do not have a complimentary parking voucher, you will need to pay upon entry: $10.00 cash or credit card. Parking vouchers are accepted at the following lots:

Can guests be dropped off?

The main entrance to the UIC Dorin Forum is located at 725 W. Roosevelt Road (corner of Roosevelt and Halsted). To drop off passengers needing special assistance or who cannot walk long distances, there will be a pull-over site on Roosevelt Road, heading east outside the venue.

What are UIC Dorin Forum's Bag and Metal Detector Policies?

For safety reasons, bags, purses, backpacks and other large bags may not be permitted in the UIC Dorin Forum.  Bags must fit into a container 12″ x 6″ x 12″ in order to be permitted into the venue.  All graduates, guests, faculty and staff will also be asked to pass through a metal detector. Persons passing through the metal detectors will be asked to remove their phones, keys, coins, wallets, etc. A list of prohibited items includes:

  • Coolers, including thermos
  • Fanny packs
  • Luggage or any kind
  • Diaper bags
  • Bottles/Cans

Where can graduating students order graduation announcements?

You can purchase printed announcements through Jostens.

How do graduating students order a class ring?

You can purchase an official Dominican ring or university jewelry from Jostens. Jostens representatives will be on campus Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 at the Countdown to Commencement event.

Is there a photographer the day of commencement?

A photographer from GradImages will be at your ceremony to take a candid photograph of you at your special moment of recognition. You will receive a free passport-sized digital proof of this photo on an order card within 5–7 days following the ceremony. Questions may be emailed to service@gradimages.com. After the ceremony you may order online at GradImages or call (800) 261-2576

Since photographs will be available, family members and guests are encouraged to remain in their seats, relax and enjoy the ceremony.

You may add contact information for up to six additional relatives and/or friends. GradImages never has and never will sell or share the address/email information provided to us to any other vendor.
