The MS/MIS program includes study in the fields of computer science, information science and management, and it is designed to prepare students who have worked or are already working in the information systems field for positions of project leadership or IT management. The MS/MIS program is a 17-course curriculum made up of a sequence of management and computer information systems courses. Depending upon the student’s undergraduate preparation, academic performance and GMAT test scores, from one to six of the foundation courses may be waived. Based on those waivers, a minimum of 11 courses is required to receive the degree. In addition to course waivers, students who have successfully completed course work at another accredited graduate program may request to have two classes (maximum of six credits) transferred into our program. Transfer courses are subject to approval. Students are subject to the degree requirements in effect when they matriculate, which is the first semester they attend classes. Students may elect to be subject to any subsequent changes in the requirements. Students are expected to complete their graduate degrees within a six-year time frame. Those requiring an extended period of study must meet with the dean to structure a schedule of completion for their degree. Students who return after an absence of more than five years may be required to meet with the dean to discuss any necessary adjustments to their academic program based on changes to the degree curriculum.

It is assumed that students have mastered basic computer skills including spreadsheet, word processing and file management proficiency prior to their matriculation into the MS/MIS program. The Master of Science in management information systems degree is conferred upon candidates who have met the following requirements:

  • Completion of a minimum of 33 semester hours (11 courses) of graduate credit with a minimum of 27 semester hours completed in the Dominican University MS/MIS program. A maximum of six credits of equivalent course work may be transferred in from another graduate business or IS program.
  • Attainment of a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  • Satisfactory completion of courses GSB 611, GSB 612, GSB 613, GSB 615, GSB 616, GSB 754, GBIS 710, GBIS 722, GBIS 725, GBIS 739, GBIS 741, GBIS 742, GBIS 744, GBIS 747, GBIS 751 and two electives.
