Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (MSCIS)
The MSCIS program is designed to integrate information technology and management with key business concepts and applications. The curriculum provides students with practical experience in multi-vendor hardware and software that spans multiple platforms, including workstation, mobile, LAN, mid-range computing, and mainframe platforms. It is assumed that students have mastered basic computer skills and concepts prior to their matriculation into the MSCIS program.
MSCIS Curriculum
A candidate for the MSCIS degree will normally need 11 to 15 courses to complete the degree. The total number depends on the candidate’s undergraduate coursework, academic performance and GRE test score, which may result in the waiver of up to four foundation courses. In addition to course waivers, students who have successfully completed relevant course work at another accredited graduate program may request to have two courses (maximum of six credits) transferred and applied toward degree requirements.
The MSCIS program offers two concentrations. The concentration in enterprise systems is intended to prepare students as effective information systems professionals who understand business concepts and fundamentals as well as information systems resource management. The computer security concentration is designed to provide graduates with expertise in identifying computer system security risks, threats and attacks, developing and implementing countermeasures and information security policies, protecting information assets and corporate technical resources, and managing the deployment of security solutions. To complete either concentration, all three electives must be taken from the concentration. All students must complete a master’s project, practicum or thesis.
