Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (MS/CIS)

The MS/CIS program is designed to integrate information technology and management with key business concepts and applications.  The goal of the CIS degree’s Information Systems concentration is to prepare students as effective information systems professionals who understand business concepts and fundamentals as well as information systems resource management.  The MS/CIS degree’s Computer Security concentration is designed to prepare graduates with expertise to identify computer systems security risks, threats and attacks, develop and implement countermeasures, implement information security policies, protect information assets and corporate technical resources, and manage the deployment of security solutions.  IS management and information security are projected to be among the fastest-growing careers through the better part of the decade.  The MS/CIS curriculum provides students with practical experience in multi-vendor hardware and software that spans multiple platforms, including workstation, mobile, LAN, mid-range computing, and mainframe platforms.

IS professionals who possess strong information systems resource management skills are positioned for careers such as:

  • IS Project Manager
  • Information Systems Manager
  • IT Director
  • Manager of Information Technology
  • Manager of Web Services
  • Systems Analyst

IS professionals who possess strong computer security and information assurance expertise are positioned for careers such as:

The MS/CIS curriculum is a 15-course curriculum.  It is assumed that students have mastered basic computer skills and concepts prior to their matriculation into the MS/CIS program, so depending upon the student’s undergraduate preparation, academic performance and GRE test scores, from one to four of the foundation courses may be waived. Based on those waivers, a minimum of 11 courses is required to receive the degree. In addition to course waivers, students who have successfully completed course work at another accredited graduate program may request to have two classes (maximum of six credits) transferred into our program. Transfer courses are subject to approval.
The Master of Science in computer information systems degree is conferred upon candidates who have met the following requirements:

  • Completion of a minimum of 33 semester hours (11 courses) of graduate credit with a minimum of 27 hours completed in the Dominican University MS/CIS program.  A maximum of six credits of equivalent course work may be transferred in from another graduate level program.
  • Attainment of a minimum grade point average of 3.0
