Description:

God, Evolution and the Power of Love

Theology has been linked to cosmology for centuries. Our understanding of God and God’s relation to creation is based on our understanding of the physical order. While modern science has radically changed our understanding of this order, the core principles of Christian belief are still based on a cosmology of the past. The two main pillars of modern science, evolution and quantum physics, have ushered in a new cosmology and our challenge today is to find coherence between our religious beliefs and the new cosmos. We will focus on the new cosmology as a new framework for religious belief and, in particular, the doctrine of the Incarnation. We will explore the meaning of Jesus Christ in an evolutionary universe and the significance of Christ in evolution for the future direction of Christian life. Sr. Ilia Delio, OSF, PhD, director of Catholic Studies and visiting professor at Georgetown University, will be our lecturer. Sr. Ilia is the author of The Unbearable Wholeness of Being, and The Emergent Christ.
